RE: [U2] VMWare Server (free) Product - UV virtualization?
Gabriel, Doing that successfully with Unidata so imagine Universe would be fine, too, but can't promise that's an accurate guess. I find vmware to be slow and clunky until you get it set up just right with it's allocation of time share and memory. But it is immensely convenient - I keep those USB hard drives around with different worlds on them and can be up and running on any at any time. It's worth the setup hassle. I've run multiple instances of VMWARE Workstation if that helps? Remember that each concurrent VM running UniVerse is a separate UniVerse license though. RE: [U2] VMWare Server (free) Product - UV virtualization?
Hi, Yes, I use the VMWARE with uv-linux and uv-windows on different vm but only for development, training, demo, test and db convertion. I have linux host for dev and training session and windows-XP host (my workstation) for dev - test - demo - db convertion. Not on production with many users. It works good, the performance depends on ram allocate to vm and host power - A linux host seems more powerful like a windows host. My 2 pence. Hi all: Was wondering if anyone has had any luck running VMWare Server (their free Virtualization product which runs on top of Windows or Linux) to run multiple instances of UV on one piece of hardware. Any performance issues? We're going to do an experiment shortly with a powerful server and see how it performs... What about the free ones (Xen, etc) ESX is tasty, but pricey...
