Re: [U2] External database
No compilation is required. 64-bit files work fine on 32-bit UniVerse. You will be best served by making sure you have a working back-up, then converting the needed files to 64-bit. Instructions should be in the manuals. As always, do take a look at upgrading as well. 9.6 is an extremely old release. Being on later versions means if you ever run into issues with your System, it will be much easier to get assistance to get back up and running. If you want help/guidance/assistance, you can always try Rocket's Professional Services. http://u2.rocketsoftware.com/services/professional-services Cheers, Dan -Original Message- From: u2-users-boun...@listserver.u2ug.org [mailto:u2-users-boun...@listserver.u2ug.org] On Behalf Of asad50089 Sent: Monday, January 14, 2013 8:22 AM To: u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org Subject: Re: [U2] External database Hi, Thanks for guidance. Re: [U2] External database
Asad You don't need to recompile - the infobasic object code is interpreted, so there is no difference in running it on a 32 bit or 64 bit platform. Also, you don't need to set the 64BIT_FILES flag in the uvconfig to do this - that just sets the default for creating new files. Any files you need to convert can be changed on a one-by-one basis. The problem is, by default, it creates FILES which contain in their structure a 32-bit offset field, so the files can't go above 2Gb because this field gets corrupted. Look up the 64BIT or 64-BIT) keyword. You may be able to just resize your files. Otherwise just do a CREATE.FILE using that keyword, and copy the data across. You shouldn't have any trouble - I don't know when 64-bit files were introduced to UV, but they've been around a while - like distributed files which is the other way round. If you think you're going to have trouble, it'll be a damn sight cheaper paying an expert to come in for a day or two and help you out, than paying for a migration to Oracle! As long as your OS and the filesystem is already 64-bit enabled - you should be able to resize the UV file to 64BIT (make sure you have a verified backup first :)). Otherwise, use UV distributed file create a logical file view of your UV physical files. Note that BCI is a programmatic API interface only - that implements OBDC calls, it's not a DB-level interface of likes of EDA or UV/Net, etc. Useful largely with batch-like operations to push/pull data. Rauf, The simplest method is to use BCI. This allows you to access other databases from BASIC using ODBC. Depending on your needs there is also EDA which allows you to export U2 data to another database for concurrent access. You could also access your U2 database using ODBC, JDBC or simply export and import via a file (for example). If you can explain in a bit more detail we can try and be a bit more specific.
