I did have to disable the 3d graphics as suggested for a while but with
the latest dapper stuff i have been able to turn it back on!

You may want to take a look at bug 58492 which talks about this bug but
in the AMD64 distribution. However, it is the same bug. They have
found that there is a workaround (do not use GTK+ dialogs) and it is a
linking problem, as well-- rebuilding and pushing an update should fix
it. Bug 58492
I've moved to 6.06. It may have been resolved as a bad RAM issue. If
you're seeing no re-occurrence with other users I would consider the bug
closed.

I want to add that the menu bar fonts of firefox are fuzzy compared to
other gnome applications; look at the screenshot.
The solution by Pedro Alejandro López-Valencia doesn't work for me, the
fonts look the same, are not antialiased.

I've found that if you run the oo* commands with
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.3 before them, like so:

it fixes the crashes. Not sure if this helps, but it allows me to use
OpenOffice w/o the crashing.

if I just try to connect to an already listed network, only WEP* are listed as
Wireless Security. But if I try to connect by clicking on the Connect to Other
Wireless Network then Wireless Security lists WPA and WPA2.

Ok. Interestingly enough, it seems like a lot of the weirdness has resolved
itself magically across a few logins, so I don't have any complaints anymore
regarding gtk-qt-engine in Edgy. I do agree that the new version corrects
several flaws in Dapper's version.

This is maybe due to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibAtaForAtaDisks in progress (or
regress).
At some point I had a UUID instead of /dev/hda1 in my /boot/grub/menu.lst, now
it is back to /dev/hda1. There is a kopt= line with UUID, but it is overridden
by a kopt_2_6= line with /dev/hda1.

As to your question, I am using the 32bit x86 version of OpenOffice, which is
currently for Dapper the version 2.0.2 I do not know why the 64bit version of
OpenOffice got selected?!?

software is required to make any of this work. Any changes would
probably have to wait for our 1.6.10 or 1.6.11 release (Oct-Nov
timeframe), however.
