I forgot to check the obvious... This is a regresion in the default
installation settings of fontconfig-setup. In all previous versions,
bitmap files are *never* included by default, but in Edgy they are.
That is, if firefox finds bitmap fonts of the typefaces it wants, it

Please edit the entry in grub menu, and change root=/dev/sda1 to
root=/dev/hda1.
After boot, edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and remove the line with kopt_2_6.
Then run sudo update-grub.
This is actually a bug in the installer. The kopt_2_6 line should be
using root=UUID= like the kopt line does.

Do other OSes and desktops have that feature? What do they use? The
copy variant has the issue to break ordering. I'm not sure the
issue is annoying enough to try figure a complicated way to make it work

I don't know why this seem to ok.
when I install the package: libc6-dbg, and libgtk2.0-0-dbg,
the error seem to be do that correct things.

No they are not because lsmod didn't show them. I had to add the following
lines: 8139too
snd-intel8x0
uhci_hcd
ehci_hcd
usbcore
usb_storage
usbhid
vfat
to /etc/modules and then things started to work.
It seems that this is a rare bug and very few users face it, but it sure
as hell does exist
Probably it's a silly thought, but maybe the log was created after the
ptoblem had been manually fixed and so the log seems normal now?

Is this a new feature in recent kernels? The kernel in Dapper included
support for DVB devices out of the box, so it's quite surprising to see
it disappear in Edgy.
