For me it works with the symlinks in place ( sort of ). Although my
/etc/network/interfaces has this setting, it doesn't work before I do a
manual
iwconfig eth1 essid myessid
and then a manual dhclient.

error here. I would point out that the functionality for me fails differently
if I (1) select a file by typing its path, (2) select
xserver failed to start properly (gdm error)

I checked this bug once more and I found out that when I switch to
German the translation works almost fine. It just displays some
characters (ö, ä, ü) incorrectly. Only a few lines aren't translated

I left the server ticking over for a soak test with no customisations or
web applications installed.
After about 18 hours it crashed with the following report

Ok, I think that I figured out what is going wrong here.
everytime I use \r inside a command, I close the item, and reopen it.
The \r is replaced by a weird sign. Probably a new line representation.

ndiswrapper does work on AMD64, but only with 64bit Windows drivers.
