I have been having the same problems in the Dapper (stable) release.
I've been using various bash scripts to fix the routing problems. I installed
the 'wffi-radar' wifi manager and it worked right off. No more scripts.
I would suggest that you look at how 'wifi-radarr' solved these problems.

I had this problem (or a very similar one). It was due to evince being
unable to connect to the cups server (connection refused). This was
apparent when I ran evince under strace.

I have a spreadsheet that openoffice cannot save anymore.
That is open the spreadsheet, save it, takes ages but it still works;
open the spreadsheet, add something to it, save it and ooffice hangs
during save using all the CPU (or it does not really hang, but
nonetheless
... also found a fifo in the root directory named /usplash_fifo
I've never seen a such a file in the root directory before ...

Confirmed in Edgy.
Interestingly, the error does not appear when using mv Gorillaz
Gorillaz\ -\ Demon\ Days.rar or svn mv Gorillaz Gorillaz\ -\ Demon\
Days.rar , so I guess it is a bug in the function _command that handles
sudo in /etc/bash_completion.
