Mr. Rich,
Your proposed solution did not solve my problem.
I rewrite my problem:
Yamaha Opl3sa2 sound card worked in Breezy 5.10 with a simple:
modprobe snd-opl3sa2
But in Dapper it says during boot and when I manually modprobe snd-opl3sa2:
FATAL: Error inserting snd_opl3sa2
Thank you for your bug. Do you still have that problem? Why do you start
gconf-editor with sudo, that way you change the key for the
administrator and not your user

Thanks, I'm in the middle of reworking the UI for these options at the
moment. Winbind alone covers kerberos fairly well with recent versions
of samba, but I'd prefer to keep the initial display of options as
simple as possible, exposing more configuration options when necessary
or when requested.
No it's system wide. I was in Firefox when I noticed there was no sound

I guess noprobe isn't an option for you, eh? I think this is definitely
a bug. I just got my sata hard drive recently and feisty is happy to
live on the ide, but I can't see the sata drive at all. I'm assuming
this was not a problem in edgy or dapper then?

WORKAROUND : Use Ubuntu 5.04 since this is only broken in 5.10 - 7.nn !

I also agree this bug is a showstopper: I have very common hardware
setup namely a dell dimension 4600, a very well sold computer.
