I have manually updated my system today using aptitude.

What would be useful is a valgrind log
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind) of gnome-panel when it's crashing.
The problem is that the bug is not easy to trigger so you would have to
run gnome-panel under valgrind for some time and that slows down things
I have already done a reinstall, so those files no longer exist. If I
attempt to update again and the same error occurs, I will try to attach
those files. However, because I am unable to use the GUI and I am pretty
much a novice, I doubt I'd know how to send those files.
