I installed Edgy 64-bit on a partition, and it does not exhibit this
bug. Unfortunately, MATLAB does not get along at all with Edgy x64
(can't even install it properly) so I can't use it for this machine (my
employer's box).

Add printer wizard only allows adding Samba printers on Feisty
Adding vga=792 to my kernel stops the panic and I get the splash.
Unfortunately at the end of the boot when loading kdm it stuck but I believe
this has more to do with the fglrx driver that I am trying to get
configured. Strangely when I leave splash off and do not set vga X starts
fine. I will

I can confirm this bug. Oddly enough, if you set the cursor to blink,
the cursor is transparent but the rest of the window is not.

that all seems ok to me.
I am not sure why it works now (and not before) maybe something was
fixed in the updates since I reported it. Maybe
I as the author of Kid3 would also suggest updating to 0.8.1. Kid3 0.8.1
is not in debian experimental because it is buggy, but because debian
etch is frozen. Besides the support for the new libtunepimp, there is
another motivation why to upgrade: The old freedb.org server, which is
used by Kid3
A little further information. On my other (luks) system it works fine.
Anyone got ideas as to what might be the non-luks specific bug?
