Hi i happened to have the same problem and with the instalation of the
nvidia-glx-new everything worked, but uppon rebooting the settings went away
and everything got back to before.
Also when i let the nvida-settings write the xorg file i get windowless

I suppose there was no answer because I was using the nvidia driver and
the kernel was tainted.
I've now rebooted and am using the nv driver (but I can't get xinerama
to work, so only one display)

I have added the 'Option RenderAccel false' to the relevant portion
of my xorg.conf file, but it didn't make any difference: Firefox still
crashes on certain sites, bringing the entire X server down with it.

after taking a look at the preinstall script it seems that it checks for the
wrong initscript.

The PVR-500 is one physical card, swapping is of no use. I had the card working
with another setup (6.10 with kernel 2.6.17), and they work both in WinXP, so I
do not think its an hardware issue.

Yes, it doesn't but when we try to dnd it,
its image remains as it has been clicked and doesn't get its initial appearance.
(I use the default ubuntu window manager).

Just for info, Ralf's workaround seems to work for me.
I already rebooted twice and Deskbar is loading just fine (slower than usual
though), and Tracker along with it...

Ok...I insert audio CD titled BT: Emotional Technology...it gives list
of choices (play with Amarok, Kaffine, rip, etc.) so:
1. choose Play CD with Amarok
2. Check Always do this selected action
3. Press OK
When you put the CD in the drive it should play automatically.
Mission Accomplished.

Yes, Gianfranco, it's exactly the same Debian Etch patch I put in the
bug report. However I'm not that convinced it's a hal related (or hal
only) issue, since as I said on Xubuntu 7.04 this bug doesn't exist (on
