Found that this is a problem with /sbin/ipw3945d-2.6.20-16-generic (or 2.6.20-15). When the computer is waked up after being suspend, sometimes the intel 3945 device is not recognized as plugged into the system, so you can`t turn on/off wifi because Ubuntu is not recognizing the board itself.
