Athlon 64 1,6 MHz, 1GB RAM
/dev/md0 is a Raid5 with 3x250GB disks (2x SATA and 1 PATA)

I should experiment with my 4 disk raid 5 array disconnected. It's the
one that has half SATA and half PATA drives as well. We have pretty much
the same setup, and I mean I just formatted my drive and installed Gutsy
so it's probably not just us.

Ohhh, crap! My joy was spread a little bit too early. It seens that the
slider for dimming the brightness on my Sony Vaio VGN-FS195VP only
worked just after the update. After rebooting my machine I was - once
again - not able to dim the brightness within gnome-power-manager

I'm not sure if it'll have any ill effects, but my problem went away by
commenting out all lines in the
/etc/acpi/events/videobtn file and then rstarting acpid. I assume this causes
the acpid to ignore the
event that is triggering the backlight to come back on when the lid is still
closed.
