Ubuntu already ships 3 different nvidia drivers: nvidia-glx-legacy (7xxx
series), nvidia-glx (9xxx series), and nvidia-glx-new (100.xxx series).
If you don't want to use the 100 series drivers, it should be as simple
as sudo aptitude install nvidia-glx, providing that the 9xxx series
drivers

I just upgraded gdm to newest and i am running displayconfig-gtk 0.3.7
but now displayconfig-gtk only offers 800x600 or 640x480 on my displays,
i have the LCD 1680x1050 monitor chosen for both because both the lcd
screen in the laptop and external monitor supports it.

I just tried firing up Update Manager and it mysteriously went and
fetched 55 updates. After the updates were complete, the Language
Support tool now properly shows *all* the languages and when I pick
some non-english language such as chinese, it goes ahead and gets all

Yep, just upgraded a Thinkpad T30 (Radeon Mobility 7500) which had been
doing Xv just fine with (or without) compiz working. Now I just get a
green screen, even when I turn off desktop effects.
I have another ATI-based machine running (G4 Mac Mini, radeon 9200)

problem. The contents of /etc/usplash.conf were initially xres=1280
yres=1024, which the laptop display can't handle. I changed that to
xres=1280 yres=800, and then had to execute sudo update-usplash-theme

This maybe an issue with the nVidia drivers I am not to sure, I will get
random screen blackouts when watching video, weather fullscreen part
screen or embedded (YouTube). I will get a 1-2 second blackout of the
entire screen. It happens randomly and sound is not affected.
Same problem with a Radeon IGP 330M/340M/350M.
If you disable dri by using libgl1-mesa-swx11 package, it works but much
slower. The only version of blender i can run on the new ubuntu 7.10 is the
mesa static version available on blender.org (2.44, 2.45 doesn't work)

Confirmed that this seems to be a kernel issue. If I boot the old Feisty kernel
(2.6.20-16) the problem does not occur.
I tried the 2.6.22-14-rt kernel and the problem is still present. I read on the
kernel list that this problem has been noted and fixed in the rc series for the
2.6.23 series.
I should have added I am using the 64bit OS with emt64 dual xeon
processor.

After installing virtualbox-ose and virtualbox-ose-
modules-2.6.22-14-generic, adding myself to the vboxusers group and
attempting to run Damn Small Linux in it, Virtualbox didn't work right,
giving me the error:
VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel
It didn't go in for Gutsy, unsubcribing motu-uvf. Please update for
Hardy and keep up your good work on the package.

dmf86, of course you can install and run the Feisty 6.6.3 -ati driver as
a workaround for this issue. However, for Gutsy we wish to focus on
attaining a true fix for the issue, without needing to revert to the old
driver. -ati 6.7.x contains a wealth of bug fixes for long standing
issues we wish
I can confirm this on my kubuntu Gutsy, after doing a fresh install of
the beta version.
As far as I am conserned, this error is reported by
kio_media_mounthelper in a popup window when I try to mount it, either
by double click or via the right click :

Install foomatic-db-gutenprint package under Edgy for working CX
drivers. I had to install using gnome tools even though I'm using kde
(kcontrol did not work first try so I gave up)

Kubuntu Feisty - Print
Alex Deucher says he has a fix in for LVDS related issues. I've done up
a git snapshot of the current -ati head if anyone would like to test

I only noticed it that once, but I havn't been trying it very much as I
have been checking out Opensuse 10.3 (still not quite as good as Ubuntu,
horrible package manager behavior). Quite a strange and unnoticeable
glitch.
