Here is a possible workaround, and clue. I too had no video when I
installed 7.10. However I did have version 7.04 installed and did a full
install of 7.10. Out of curiosity, I re-installed 7.04, then I did an
UPGRADE from 7.04 to 7.10 Per the instructions for upgrading. I now have
video!!

The most important thing for me was to pull out all other network
cards, otherwise the rt2500 would not see any wireless networks.
BTW, I've tested this on two different machines, with identical results.
It appears that the RT2500 doesn't tolerate additional network
interfaces for some reason.

In my system, gdm-cdd.conf is a symlink to
/etc/alternatives/gdm-config-derivative, which in turn is a symlink to
/usr/share/ubuntustudio-look/gdm-cdd.conf (which is installed by
ubuntustudio-gdm-theme).

'Browser=true' on
