Well i got it working!
I just installed a new asus lightscribe dvd burner and put my old dvd
drive as the slave, and now all works as it should.
Strange thing is that the cd drive that was causing this problem is
still plugged in and is working, i think its because its now as a slave
it just

I'm experiencing the same problem, which goes away disabling hardware
acceleration in the options panel. I'm using OpenOffice Impress 2.2.0
(Ubuntu Feisty) on a PPC machine with an ATI FireGL Mobility T2e.

I confirm this bug and I opened an upstream bug for it.
However there is an easy workaround, just use the menu Edition - Add files or

I would say the manpage of hdparm is wrong. On one of my laptops 255 doesn't
work (stays at 128) an on the other issuing 'hdparm -B 255 /dev/sda' results in
setting the value to 254.
But I am not sure that it is the right way to set it to anything other than
the default 128 - the temperature
i've seen it..
trying to enable dma gives me an error:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo hdparm -d 1 /dev/sda
[sudo] password for bigdoby:
/dev/sda:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
i think this is the main problem, but googling around i don't find a way
it seems a red line is shown when content from one cell is hidden by content
from another cell
I'm not sure whether this is a feature or a bug

This was likely to be linked to gnome-screensaver blocked by compiz, and
locking the whole system by a strange manner (disabling keyboard?).

well i have a live cd of Debian that i downloaded the other day. but im
having problems booting itkeep getting errors just like ubuntu (but
to start ubuntu live cd's i can just use safe graphics mode).

Well, i think i've fixed it :)
ThomThom, me too, my bios doesn't identify itself as a 2004 bios and the
kernel avoids loading acpi.
I added this option to force it:
acpi=force
at the end of the kernel booting line at /boot/grub/menu.lst:
kernel/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=... ro

I can confirm this. This still happens in Gutsy. If I have a usb mouse
connected and change the mouse speed settings it has effect on it but not the
Touchpad.
Since Alps Touchpad is very slow per default with Xorg I always add these lines
to Section Synaptics Touchpad in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
