I found a switch labeled digital output or something similar. I checked it
and then I had sound! I'm assuming that an update set my default sound
output to digital instead of analogue. Perhaps the same thing can work for

I just got a chance to try this. Yes, the hardy alpha 2 kernel *does*
boot successfully on this hardware. I didn't try anything beyond
starting the install sequence and bouncing to a console to look at
dmesg, but this is much farther than the gutsy kernel got. Is there any

I've tried the Hardy Alpha 2 Live CD for 24 hours w/ put a problem.
However I'm not sure that this in meaningful. After some additional
digging and experimentation it seems that the the error message
documented above correlates to the hald-addon-storage polling ( i.e
killing the hald-addon-stroage

On my IBM x31 laptop, with Gutsy just installed, gnome-power-manager is
totally inconsistent in what it things is the batter charge time:

both of them. But the group UbuntuFun (our fictional user account) was

I fixed my problem. If PCM is set higher than 47%, it's actually
amplified (according to alsamixer). If I keep it a 0dB or less, then I
can set Master as high as I want, and audio is great. Bossieman and

with the older version. Some clicks aren't registered properly. Still,
