Is the last "I/O error" line the last one from this install?
It looks like scrollkeeper-rebuilddb fails because of a missing internet
connection.
If I remember correctly there have been changes to some xml packages (in Hardy)
to provide the necessary schemata locally.

I overcome this: open terminal, run emerald, press Alt-F2, switch to terminal

I believe this is due to usplash requiring a FIFO output reader when
getting the "INPUTCHAR" command. There is a race condition in the fsck
script that the reader starts after the write is sent. usplash will
exit when it wins the race.

I also had this issue. Installed Hardy alpha 6, which OOTB worked fine
with my wireless (D-Link 655), however after applying all updates I can
no longer connect to it. I can see the signal strength of my AP, but

I just pressed Alt-Tab a few times to check whether I could still
produce the error. Not surprisingly Emerald crashed! For some reason I
can't Alt-F2 to enter 'emerald --replace' and so I have to use Compiz

I still see this error on Hardy using davfs2 1.2.1-3ubuntu1:
/sbin/umount.davfs:
can't find mount.davfs-process with pid 15429;
trying to unmount anyway.
you propably have to remove /var/run/mount.davfs/mnt-CSWebDAV.pid manually

KDE4 works now for me as well on both of my machines. It is probable
that the Swiftfox.desktop file is guilty because I had deleted mine
while I was editing the rest for the missing semicolon. I deleted it
because it was left over from a previous installation even though I had
uninstalled it.
