Tonight I downloaded the Kubuntu 8.04 Desktop ISO. I burned the ISO and
then booted from it into Live CD mode. All of my drives are listed and
easily accessible. The devices are installed as /dev/hd, not as /dev/sd.

I think this must not be regarded as a feature but as a bug.
And there really should be no problem with the feature freeze.
UDF 2.5 is now just too widespread to justify waiting with applying it I think.
And imagine all the support problems:

I don't want to start new bug but I've found similar problem on HP Pavilion
notebook (dv2025nr, dv2000 series). After update (it might happened this week)
brightness adjusting stopped working, I can't change it via FN+F7/F8 and
applet. However, it can be adjusted via procfs, using file
I've had Compiz disabled as a workaround, so I didn't notice. Now I
tried it with the screensavers Mauro Torrez mentions, a sure enough - it
leads to the same bitter end. I can add 'zoom' to the list, which is of
special interest since it always seems to end up as the screensaver in
the preview

I just want to vote for upgrading rsync to 3.0.x (3.0.1 is the newest
ATM) in hardy - or at least provide it as a separate package.
Rsync 3, has a lot of improvements, including the --iconv-option which
finally makes it possible to use rsync between filesystems with
different character encodings.
Me too. Hardy with mt-daap device in lan. No device is shown after
amarok restart and I am not able to add it again because amarok whines:
Sorry, you cannot define two devices with the same name and mountpoint!
