I agree that this is a pulseaudio problem, switching amarok to ALSA from
Autodetect has fixed the problem for me.
On a side note, the problem did not exist in the 64 bit install of Hardy I had

Yes, I was able to reproduce the same bug with Hardy as well. I first
drag the Firefox icon on the desktop from its gnome menu. Then, I drag
it from the desktop to the gnome panel. It's there. I log out. I log in.

problem. I even succeeded to adapt the modeline command in the xorg.conf
file to the resolution 0f 1440x900.
I have to try the (old) 96.43.05 nvidia driver but I first have to solve

Not sure if it should be done in samba or other package. Please change
package if not appropriate. Probably it needs a shutdown script in
either init.d or upstart that executes during shutdown before networking
and unmounts all smbfs mounts.

I hope I am not impatient, but I believe this bug is not ready for verification
yet.
Testing the upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy with axyl-lucene installed and
hardy-proposed enabled still fails:

you are using the gutsy kernel and that's not supported, because it
