Halting the upgrade is one thing, introducing a security/privacy problem
by starting a motion server on startup/install without telling the user
is another.
Specifically in my case, I already had motion set up to record on a
schedule in Gutsy. Suddenly after upgrade to Hardy, motion started
I cannot copy this from hardy-proposed to intrepid, since intrepid
already has a newer version. Michael, please fix this in intrepid, then
I can copy to -updates.

I can confirm this issue. As noted in the duplicate, the dependencies
should require just one dictionary to be installed, which should be the
one matching the user's locale. Note also that myspell-en-au is
currently left out for some reason, so all four en-* dictionaries should
be made options.

Indeed. I have yet to compile the custom Kernel because I upgraded my
primary work desktop from Gutsy to Hardy and it blew a whole in X and
now its extremely unresponsive so i'm having to use my laptop as my main
work system and can't spare the CPU time. I'm going to reinstall hardy

Have you tried 'dvgrab', which is the command line wrapper around the
kino capture facility. That way you can easily use 'sudo dvgrab' and it
will use the raw iee1394 device - including starting the playback
automatically on the DV device.
If this doesn't work then the problem is
