to large, maybe fluid could at least be used to complete freepats.

I beleive this is a well-known feature in the kernel itself. It
prioritizes file operations.
I can confirm this going on with .tar backups and beleive it's the same
phenomenon. When working with large files, the kernel uses so much
resources that the user interface part becomes sluggish or
why this was marked as private? unsetting the status no explanation was

I have the same problem in kubuntu 8.04. I used the kde-tweak applet, and now
kicker does not start at login.
I also have the file panel.desktop with the same content.
