I applied the proposed patch last week and all are working fine... but, if I
reproduce Jakob case (bookmark a unreachable machine) all Gnome freezes
(startup, open dialogs, etc).
This problem is like windows machines with shortcuts to unreachable
machine or mapped drivers.

Some experimentation on my Dell Inspiron 530 shows the following:
Booting with controller set to RAID mode:
- boots OK without the need for the all_generic_ide parameter
- read speed: 64.0 MB/s
- write speed: 51.4 MB/s
Booting with controller set to IDE mode:
- requires all_generic_id
As, jsandeo mentioned. It's a HUGE drawback.
To me is a huge problem. I work with a lot of spreadsheets every day (more that
50 a day), most of them i have to perform minor changes e execute macros. And
with this for a lack of better words, it's a pain in the ass having to save

The driver remains buggy, problem is either with asynchronous memory
read from the graphics card or masking problem, who knows? At 768x576 @
60Hz resolution the screen is almost undistorted, but at the resolution
the Ubuntu 8.04 was trying to install (1600x1200?) it was close to

I was just able to reproduce the issue a few times. Clicking on a
hyperlink in thunderbird opened the page in a new firefox tab as is it
meant to, but triggered the loss of window decoration. I could reproduce
this every time, until I closed that instance of firefox and then
