I'm using KDE, but it really annoys me too. Past (K)Ubuntu releases used to
automount my partitions after I installed them, but not Hardy. It automounted
it only when I opened it with Konqueror. I had to open it first in Konqueor to
play my music in Amarok... Even though KDE has a nice Disk

that's no different but it's likely one of those random issue,
scrollkeeper has quite some bugs open, there is a crasher somewhere but
it doesn't happen all the time so just a retry is enough to get things
working usually, closing the bug since it has no details on the issue
and that works

With gutsy, I had to manually execute it for each bootup. Same issues,
upgrade and apt-get installation does not work out of the box in Hardy.
