I managed to patch the stock ubuntu kernel (2.6.24-18) with the patches
I found on the second link on the above post on the LKML. Seems stable,
I've been running it in production on two large raid5 arrays without
issue. The patches didn't apply perfectly but they do work.

seen similar symptoms before, without apport detecting any thing.
Sometimes after logging in, my appearance settings are all messed up -
theme, decoration etc. When I open the Appearance preferences, they come
back to normal.

Today I discovered that songs in Rhythmbox pause whenever I navigate
away from a youtube page using StumbleUpon. Closing or navigating away
from websites containing video seems to affect songs playing in
Rhythmbox. Audio in other areas remains unaffected.

This bug has been reported before, but not for intrepid (I don't think).
Exactly as stated in summary, there is crackly static coming from my
speakers, EVEN when the volume mixer preloads with the internal speakers
muted. (???) It lasts varying amounts of time, always only
UPDATE: I have 100% reproducability on my machine. If that helps any.
