I can confirm that the intrepid release candidates ( as of the September
download ) have this problem with machines across the board. Memtest
2.01 fails on lower memory, to the point it crashes and locks up on a
Dell Latitude CPx and a home built Dual Core Athlon that are stable. (
under 8.04
It worked when I enabled the extension, but not without it. Ubuntu 8.04
works fine with that disabled fyi.

I plugged the hard drive from the non-working enclosure into my computer

Pidgin Notification Icon blinking incorrectly
I booted my FSC Lifebook S-6120 with ipw2200 chipset with Ubuntu
Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha5. Again i'm sitting here inside our shiny still
new 24/7 library. First I made some tests while I'm connected via cable
to our university lan.

Can you specify which ubuntu release you are using? I've already seen
the problem you get and it got fixed on both 3 computers that I tested
under a clean intrepid alpha 5 installation.

just updated on 6 sept 2008 which should be alpha 5. rebooted. still the
same repeating 2 lines. did the restart and noticed this in the logs.

Intrepid alpha 5's 2.6.27-2 kernel fails to boot on my machine (Gigabyte
GA-MA78G-DS3H mb, AMD 64 X2 5600+ CPU, w/ 2x SATA drives). Alpha 4's
2.6.26-5 kernel booted just fine.
The boot fails due to an AHCI startup failure.

This is still present in intrepid alpha 5, see attached on a new
installation - just checked the appearance manager to see which theme
was installed and it says 'custom' because the default (Humane-Murrine)
is not installed.
