I have found the problem regarding the checksums. When I wright on a
DVD-RW it gives me a different checksum all o the time. On a CDROM it
works all of the time:

b) I think even in earlier versions the window manager would have to declare
that it is not free desktop compatible, which would also deactivate the systray

I wasn't able to try this again until now, since I had limited time in the
machine room and I had trouble netbooting a livecd.

This bug doesn't seem to be present on this hardware anymore in the
i386 Hardy alpha5 live
The point it that this has happened again, this time with another
aplication, so I think the problem is the search engine that Adept
Installer uses. I attach one more sccreenshot. It seems to happen when I
search for something, and then, when I search another time for
something, old and new searchs
Sorry, won't be done.
There is however consideration to swtich to webkit as rendering backend
(i.e. what Safari, Chrome, Epiphany and Qt are using).

Binary package hint: nautilus
The summary says it all:
Nautilus lists files contained in inaccessible directories as "0" instead of
"?" if you expand the tree form of it. For example, if you are in list view, it
says "?" for the number of files and directories inside lost+f
Since this bug is against a version of Ubuntu that is no longer
supported, and is most likely fixed due to the massive changes in the
way xorg handles input, I am closing bug out. If you believe this is in
error, please re-open.

So as you can see the only file that differs is the one in the subdir
wine/.
It misses the Hidden=true attribute.
Maybe that helps you find the problem.
