1) Gigabyte came out with a new BIOS version (F05) for Linux compatibility. I

This bug causes the user to lose his graphics upon reboot. After the
upgrade, the packages appear to be installed but the nvidia module is
not built. When the computer restarts there will either be VESA
graphics or failsafe graphics.
The workaround for the user is to apt-get install --reinstall

in gkrellm i can see that the device (sdb) is still being accessed when the

I am seeing a strange multi-colored halo around the top icon bar, menus

I have an ATI x1600 mobile graphics card, I am using the open drivers,

Michael, thanks for telling me about checkbashisms. I did not know about
that tool before.
After reviewing extra/rennum.sh and debian/patches/bashism, I no longer
feel that changing the interpreter is no longer needed.

Finally I'm able to run uvesafb.
This is what I did:
-- installed v86d from intrepid repo
-- added the module uvesafb in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
-- removed all the old parameter in /boot/grub/menu.lst, like video=...
-- created /etc/modprobe.d/uvesafb containing the parameters for uvesafb. In
Philip, any idea why it failed to start? Does a sudo
/etc/init.d/postgresql-8.3 restart work? Please give me the output of
pg_lsclusters. Thanks!

I'm using version 1.3.3.11.dfsg-1ubuntu4 on Hardy. I'm seeing randomly
garbled text in my story editor. The behaviour seems similar to what is

The bug that I'm seeing is apparently fixed
tried Ubuntu 8.10 alpha 6 LiveCD:
hotkeys Fn+F2 (lock), Fn+F4 (sleep), Brightness Up/Down
work there.
What is interesting, is that
if I log in/switch to a newly created user, same hotkeys
work there. Using acpi-support_0.110 (same happens when
using acpi-support_0.111-pre1).
