As it happens the issue was with all windows. I have since re installed hardy,
but may dual boot with intrepid for testing. I will report back on this issue
when I have done so

in fact, when you change virtual machine settings in virt-manager and click to
apply, on_reboot and on_crash settings in xml domain are lost. it's always

Just an update. I downloaded kubuntu untrepid 8.10 and installed it in VMWare.
After upgrading and dist-upgrading everything seems to work. I have tested this
with my Trekstor Vibez MP3 player containing a folder Café del mar and it

I've exactly the same problem, just that it happens immediately after bootup (I
don't need to rearrange the panel). Compiz works fine even after the crash. (If
I logout, X doesn't start properly again, but I doubt that this is related).

I heard the new Ibex login sound the first few times I logged in. Every
time I log in the crash with the login sound message pops up. I now
hear the old login sound each time. I disabled the gnome Login Sound
startup in the Sessions Preferences. This stopped the crash message
from popping up.
