Just as a side note, Skype is not working any longer on my laptop
complaining about issues with sound playback, it was working fine before
I upgraded the kernel, so I fear something is bad with 2.6.24-21-generic

Acer Aspire 5520 cannot record sound
I just discovered a workaround: add options processor max_cstate=2 to
/etc/modprobe.d/options, then run update-initramfs -u and reboot. I
did this for another reason, but as a side-effect, my microphone started
to record at the right speed. I guess therefore this bug is something to
do with power

between config/hal.c and NewInputDeviceRequest() in xf86XInput.c.
