seeing the same symptoms as described above (no nm-applet icon in the
notification area, though Networkmanager and nm-applet were running,

With today's mobile image, on a Q1U, madwifi gets loaded and I can
connect with nm-applet to a WPA TKIP wifi.

I have the same problem here using (laptop) Acer 8004 LMI, Radeon 9700.
With 8.04, I had no problem but after the upgrade to 8.04.1 the freeze appears.
The mouse (trackpad) continues to works but do not register any click and the
keyboard seems no respond at all (ctrl+alt+f1 does not work).
I have a Lenovo N100 0768-6VG. Suspend worked well on 2.6.27-3 in an
Alpha version of Intrepid but stopped working in later versions,
including the latest I've tried, 2.6.27-7.13.
The resume fails in a few ways. The touchpad no longer responds and
some of the keys produce different key

Well, it is working much better. Touchpad was working fine.
But during testing I've got twice out of connection. NetworkManager is looking
like properly connected but I can't reach (ping) any public host.

Michael, what cache? And what in the postinst should add the icon to the
cache? I see some other postinst's call update-desktop-database, is this
what's missing here?

I have given up
I am using a T60 with intrepid with a Intel 945 graphics card
Tried all the options EXA / XAA, intel_batch and nothing seems to improve the
speed
running at 222fps using glxgears
Any suggestions ???

Same problem: Dell XPS1330, after upgrading to Ibex, sounded like trying
to take off the desk using its fan. BIOS is A10. I simply went back to
the nvidia 173 driver, and peace came back after rebooting.

including this app in the Add/Remove menu is automatically done as soon
a .desktop file is provided in the package? do you have some more
information about that?

at the categories i only changed GNOME to GTK what is more precise, as
