blank cds are recognized (and record fine), but blank dvds (verbatim
dvd+r) are not recognized (by nautilus, brasero or k3b). i've got a LG,
vendor HL-DT-ST, model RW/DVD GCC-H31N.

I can confirm Chris Davis's comment that if you select RDP5 in the
tsclient GUI, when you grep for the rdesktop process, you see that it is
using protocol 4 rather and vice versa...

I've now managed to get this working. It involved patching and
recompiling simply the toshiba_acpi module, then manually installing the
module. Since I don't really understand what I'm doing, I don't know if
this is the easiest way to get it to work, but it fixed the problem for

Nowadays it doesn't crash but it doesn't work correctly. I always get

I have performed a clean install of Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop. I also have a
NVidia CK804 with ALC850. I am using the SP/DIF After the
installation, I had no sound.
I followed your advice and killed PulseAudio by performing the following
in a terminal window:
ps -ef | grep pulseaudio
kill PID,

It happens to my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop too, disabling the uplash
eliminate the loud beeps. If you enable usplash with the vga-791
option in /boot/grub/menu.lst the system boots without the beeps, but
the elements in usplash screen are displayed in wrong positions.

libical is needed in main for kdepimlibs. Previously kdepimlibs had its
own copy of libical, I believe Evolution likewise. I've moved it to
main but I believe a quick review is still needed so this bug is to
track.
