I had an interesting chat with pulseaudio's Lennart some time ago, it
might interest some of you here. IMHO that Lennart seems to acknowledge
this problem in pulseaudio, but also says that this could be fixed by a
modification in the alsa modules (by removing all hardware volume

Hello,
There is no sound on my Toshiba Tecra laptop with Ubutu 8.10.
The sound card is listed in lspci as
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition
Audio Controller (rev 02)
but it is not seen by applications using sound. Alsa doesn't seem
AFAIK the output hasn't changed yet and the log file is still flooded when you
use a plotter element.
But this might be fixed when we implement the new logging system.

Michiel's screenshots have gone offline again, but I think I'm seeing a
similar issue.
If my laptop is on battery power, it skips filesystem checks, and prints
an orange asterisk in the console when it does this (see CIMG1131.JPG).

This problem was studies by cebesius and he found that the samba server
version in dns-323 does not support the new authentication protocol used
by ubuntu 8.10 but expects the weaker lanman. (see

pointe sur un bouton ne s'affiche pas. merci

I'm testing Jaunty amd64 on an HP Pavilion tx1302au tablet PC and
noticed this package would not install even though it was updated for
new Xorg server version. Found the build link above
I think this bug is somewhat related to the live CD installer (and I
hope this is the good way to link that bug to ubiquity...)

Personally I had a few local startup scripts tagged as SA1 to SA3, which
I agree is debatable, but happens to work on all flavours of UNIX I have
encountered so far. The effect was a double start of all daemons on
init level 2.
If we discard this as an invalid example, there is no guarantee, that
I discover another trouble when closing the computer : it does not want
to close and displays several lines of message about default on closing
process ! I have to switch off the line...

I can confirm it with a fresh install of 8.10 (final release - no beta).
Same symptoms, same solution.
Maybe a hint for the problem occurrence:
We chose a very long name, with uppercases: GigabyteAdvance
