Same on my machine. Had no issues with updating 8.10 to 9.04. But an
application which needs udevinfo to identify hard-disks and so on is no
more running, because udevinfo is missing.

Yes, it's most likely that issue (marking as dup). Note that using the X
server version in the nobackfill PPA will introduce momentary graphics
corruption / noise but it will run faster with no such pauses.

I just found bug 83142, which is about a very similar problem in feisty.
Uncommenting of some lines in locale.dir and compose.dir, as suggested
there, solved the problem, so I assume the main problem is the broken

Sorry, I forgot to come back to it after I installed KDE 4.2. Unfortunately id
did not got better even a little. Kate is so slow, that it is impossible to
use. I switched to nedit. It lacks a lot of functionality, Has many bugs, but
at least works.
There is another interesting things. With KDE

touchpad can be switched off, but not on again
it's finally time to remove python-xml. please use the xml modules
included in the python core.
ubuntu-archive, while this breaks some packages in universe, these
packages should be changed instead to use the libraries provided in the
tools or in recent third party xml libarries.
