I have a similar problem on Karmic on my Dell Vostro 1320 with Nvidia
Geforce 9300M with 185 driver. When I shut it down it goes past usplash
and ends in a white screen with small vertical coloured line, before

that Nautilus is still emptying trash.
I have the option to Lock the Screen, Cancel or Shutdown.
Trash is empty and there are no files in ~/.local/share/Trash/expunged

Please open a new bug for the issue you are seeing against Karmic. This
bug was originally reported quite a while ago and if you don't have the
same sound card and codec as the original bug reporter it should warrent
a new bug report. I'm going to close this again for now.

hash+salt is for storing passwords you will authenticate against (like
/etc/shadow, for instance). In this case, it's the remote credentials so
you don't have to type them on each connection. If it was crypt+salted
how would the software know what the password is without showing it to
everyone anyw
