I've solved this issue on my machine. My bind-address was set
incorrectly, so I just went in and changed it to my loopback address.
# /etc/mysql/my.cnf
bind-address = 127.0.0.1
sudo /etc/init.d/mysql restart
worked like a charm.

Yes, I know it was running because I was using it to test trouble ticket and
hardware management systems when I was running 9.04. Since upgrading to
9.10, I've been getting the error when upgrading packages. Going to
/etc/init.d and starting mysql, I get the following error:

Confirmed on linux-image-2.6.31-9-generic with kvm=1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16 +
libvirt-bin=0.7.0-1ubuntu3 on karmic.
WinXP would run through the install but not boot after the reboot.
Same with Win7
Then running Win7 from the command line with '-cpu qemu32' allowed it to
boot.

it appears that the libEucalyptusCC.so web service has been compiled
with new code (r645), but not against the generated code from the r645
eucalyptus_cc.wsdl. This causes the web service to fail when a
