I get identical problems when opening latex documents. The %% comments in
front of the Last update lines
is eaten by the macro that changes the time. This is not the case for bash

Hi Tony,
My apologies for the inconvenience this has
gfxmode/gfxpayload in grub2 doesn't really work properly with the kernel
yet. vga= works but only if you use linux16/initrd16 rather than the
linux/initrd commands.
However, when you installed grub1 instead, did you have to use vga= as
suggested in a previous comment? If so, then to be honest

@Steve: no, I don't think this bug is on track for fixing in karmic
unless it's already fixed with the toolchain changes (seems not).
The bug was initially milestoned due to banshee being a candidate
default media player, but it's still going to be rhythmbox this cycle.
