I've tried doing that but got nowhere with it. When I tried I couldn't
work out if the USB stick had been mounted properly and where it was
exactly mounted. I'll try a few more things today or tomorrow to try
to get the output of ps.

This is happening for me as well. I first noticed it for Ubuntu 9.04 and
reported the bug but it got removed because I was unable to reply
anything else about it. But alas, I'm now using 9.10 and it's happening
again.
I found the easiest way to get it to work again is to mouse over either
the top
Fontmatrix 0.4.2-2, Karmic Beta. Still the same issue, scrolling in
glyphs tab does not work. This bug is now fixed upstream in version
0.6.0, released 2009-07-03.

Actually there's no default audio driver in smplayer. It just gets as
default the audio driver that mplayer uses the first time that smplayer
runs it.
Although if you open the preferences dialog before playing any file,
indeed it displays alsa as default.

caused by the new version of Qt in karmic.
I'll try to install karmic on a virtual machine and see if I can fix the
