i just want to add that it crashes 90% of the times that i restore a
maximized window and when it doesnt crash the title bar's buttons
(close, minimize...) dissapear. I can still click them but they are not
visible. There is just an empty title bar, and if i minimize and restore
then they appear

I got a devkit-disks-daemon crash while installing Karmic 32bit. It
appeared at about 80%. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same bug and am
anxious about it. Maybe, I'm just being compulsive.
I didn't report it with apport. I just booted now on my fresh install
and googled devkit-disks-daemon.
For me: export SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0 fixes the problem partially
cause it take away the jumping problem but this leaves my mouse not
smooth, not like it was in Ubuntu 9.04. It make my mouse lag in games.
Please test if you got the same observations. I tested this issue on two
A4Tech mice A4Tech

I have an external harddrive that connects using USB or eSATA. The USB
connection works well and automounts when the device is plugged in.
When I use the eSATA connection, I have to restart the computer in order
to have the drive recognized and useable.

After my last rebooting the problem seemed to be taken out ...
That means that neither dd or rsylogd 'destroy' the system .
In the /var/log directory I found that kern.log , messages , syslog files
appear double :
ls -s command lists :
0 kern.log 4 messages 4 syslog
Do you still have the problem in Ubuntu 9.10? If so, can you please do
udevadm info --export-db /tmp/udev.txt
and attach /tmp/udev.txt here? (The camera must be plugged in for that).

It doesn't look like you actually changed anything using alsamixer.
Are you certain that you can't use amixer to do the same thing?

Could this problem be solved with extended attributes? Nautilus-share could add
an extended attribute to each shared folder, which would contain a unique
identifier, which would map into its list of known shared folders? This, it
seems, would be a more reliable solution than

It is still the same problem on my Karmic with full updates.
I still need to manually remember to run grub-mkdevicemap before update-
grub or it will just fail. It might be due the fact that I switch and
swap disks quite a few times. Still shouldn't render the system
unbootable on kernel
