much more severe. Computer hangs when trying to obtain an IP address

Hibernation appears to be irrelevant; it happened again to me on a clean
boot. Additionally, there was a longer wait before the screen unblanked
this time (until I moved the mouse; it's probable that it lasts until
either any input, or anything that would dismiss a screensaver/unblank a

Binary package hint: compiz
Always when I try to activate compiz, the screen got freeze, same
happens with mouse and keyboard. I think that is a kernel panic and is
related to Intel GMA 950, because the same thing happens on others
computers that has this integrated graphic

Ok, I misread the description then.
As regards non-KMS drivers, plymouth should still work thanks to the
vgafb16 module.
