Maybe this is a bug in ACPI.
I found the following work round (from various sources) which works for
me:
Edit file /etc/modules: add line apm (no quotation marks)
Edit file /etc/default/grub: at GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT add apm=power-off
in quotation marks and directly after any other kernel
Will do - yes resuming from hibernate after about 6 hours failed. Can you
point to a good place to explain how to install the upstream kernel? I'm
happy to try it but I've never done it before...

mmh, not overly happy to have this bug hijacked to be only about
Lenovo after 6 months (granted that the initial report is about a Lenovo

exactly the same issue still. I do think that these 2 bugs are closely

Public bug reported:
Ubuntu installed and all ok.
First startup I configured (was really easy and automatic almost) my
Broadband connection (TIM), then rebooted and the system hanged. I had
to force shutdown pressing the button.
After a couple of trials I finally managed to get into the system.

in System - Preferences - Startup Applications

@Darren if you, or anyone, can reproduce this bug, then feel free to
reopen it. It's just that if it is working on 9.10 then there really
isn't a problem anymore.
Gabe, the objection wasn't to that the problem doesn't exist
Looks like this was VirtualBox issue and it is now fixed in SVN/3.1.4.
(http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/4302) Can anyone please include this
fix to Ubuntu packages?
