libvirtd itself should handle this.
If libvirtd is started and finds the stale pid file there. It could
check if the process with the pid contained in that file is running

I haven't used this particular package -- but I know from experience that disks
can only have 4 *primary* partitions, of which one can be an *extended*

I can't boot with 2.6.32-9-generic either. I get the following error
message which may or may not be related:

I noticed that you are not using the standard jaunty package of alsa-base. As
such you will not be able to successfully use the apport-collect command.
