After reading the comments in the kernel bugzilla it seems that everyone
who has reported this issue with the optical drive model has a
Optiarc_DVD_RW_AD_7580S. According to the responses, this could very
well be a firmware issue with the drive itself.

I am having a similar problem with 9.10 (clean install) on Dell 700m laptop.
Power management worked great with 8.10 but with 9.10 whenever I unplug the
laptop power adapter, the machine goes into sleep or hibernate (whichever I
have set in the power options). This happens regardless of the stat

Hi Chuck,
Attached the debug printout from host -D. The first two files
host_before_wait.log and host_all.log are from just running 'host -D
www.google.com, while the file host_minus4*.log are from running host -D -4
www.google.com. In each case, the 'before_wait' file is the log up to the
mom

The description is fine. On Karmic, using a generic stress tool
('stress') the simulated load is reported but the specific (real-life)
load I refer to is not. So the problem is a subtle one.

I get this tightvncserver crash all the time and it's really annoying.
Typically the server will run from 1 to 24 hours before crashing. I've
verified that it happens on my machine (x86_64 running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS,
