Cold booting works fine for me. Rarely I have got a black screen but
after pressing CTRL+ALT+F1 then CTRL+ALT+F7 everything is back to
normal. That is another problem which has a bug report.

I also see the same behaviour on a dual-boot (ubuntu 9.10 and winXP) hp 8530w
laptop with a Hitachi drive. It suddenly appeared after defragging a shared
ntfs data partition. My reallocation sector count is 65538, and the rest seems

- I had the problem already in Karmic
- xorg wasn't slow or using much CPU
- there wasn't any frequent EDID probing going on

The Gnome session displays the exact same behavior.
Odd additional observation: The blinking stops (after a few seconds)
when accessing Ubuntu menu (to log out, restart etc). It doesn't start
again until a key is pressed. Any key. Shift, ctrl, alphanum...

Canada Lee, I'm afraid your problem might be unrelated to this very bug, which
applies to a regression with handling DMA. Your issue regards fairly new
hardware - I'd suggest you to file another bug, just open a terminal and type:

I can reproduce the failure in a karmic chroot with the attached status
file (by moving it to /var/lib/dpkg/status).
