Using nomodeset or i915.modeset=0 on a Dell C400 (82830 / i830 chipset) works
fine and the xv interface is available again.
It does have the side effect that the boot splash causes a segmentation fault

Well actually it kind of sucks at connecting. i usually have to disable
the wireless using the fn hotkey once or twice to get it to finally
connect to a network, otherwise it just eternally tries to connect and
asks for the password over and over in an endless cycle. Definitely a

So it's *not* exercising the rsync codepath. It usually fails because
the authorized_keys on the NC are not set on a package based install and
must be done manually.
