I found the matter of problem!
For some reason, my VG gets disabled on every boot! When I do lvscan
(after getting into manual fix mode), I see all volumes are inactive.
After I do vgchange -a y, the VG gets enabled and I can continue the
boot process. And this happens at every boot.

It's a wired network.
When Ubuntu installs, it uses DHCP to configure the networking. This
keeps on working after install, except that the IP address is from my
dynamic pool. So when I want to work remote on the machine, I have
trouble getting to it. So that's why I put the IP address in the DHCP

To be sure: I don't know if I'm using network manager. I don't touch the
network configuration anywhere, and get a working network configuration.
To prevent me having to find out what network manager is, and how to
configure it, I decided to do what I already have to do for the diskless
clients.

Ok; let me describe how this is supposed to work at boot time.
- mountall runs at startup, looks around for all the filesystems, and tries to
mount them - including any NFS filesystems. The network is almost certainly
not up yet, so a host not found message typically results.
- once the local
apport-collect 453662 results in a dialog box that says:
You are not the reporter or subscriber of this problem report, or the
report is a duplicate or already closed.
Please create a new report using apport-bug.

That's because synaptic and software-center doesn't use the same
authentication mechanism. Synaptic uses gksu and need to integrate
policykit. This is reported in bug 227482.

This occurred under Lucid with all latest updates as of today ( 14-4-10 )
Thunderbird was left running and had crashed when I returned.
I believe the crash is related to the downloaded copies of mail under
.thunderbird/profilename/ImapMail
If I delete the contents then Thunderbird runs fine but
