I have tested this on the final Ubuntu and Kubuntu releases. Neither
boot properly and just end up at a blank and unresponsive screen exactly
as in the RC. I have not found a vga= setting that works.

I had this problem when launching Thunderbird from the menu, but not from the

enabled kernel raid autodetection disturbs udev/mdadm (initramfs later)
To remove the error message I edited the /etc/default/grub
sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
change the line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
to:
#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=nomodeset
save and close gedit
update grub:
sudo update-grub

@xplong : great this works for me too :) I had two versions of
flashplayer isntalled Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45 and Shockwave Flash 10.0
r42. Now with only 10.0 r45 it works !

I have what could be a related issue, where the text appears to be wrapped back
over itself.
I think the text is the same or similar to that in Daniels screenshot, but with
one line of text superimposed over another.

When resuming from suspend while on battery power, the battery icon in
the indicator applet is displayed as an empty red container. This is
regardless of the actual battery charge being full, half or indeed

apache2-2-bin installs successfully, but when installing
apache2.2-common I got the same error. I did clean apt cache and
aptitude downloaded the latest package files.
I've updated from Kubuntu 9.10 i386, php did not work, tried to
reinstall, purge and install again all apache and php packages.
Also i've removed /etc/apache2 directory

Are you using KMS now? The Fatal server error: Couldn't find valid PLL
dividers (which I think might be a UMS only problem) problem has been
fixed upstream in xf86-video-ati - see
