Based on the above, perhaps the upstart script for samba / nmbd has a
bug as the script will stop the system from booting if no net adapters

OK, I waited a day to see how the changes I made to the /etc/aliases
file went and that seemed to solve the issue with dovecot trying to do
things in the /root/ dir.
There is still the issue where dovecot will NOT listen to port 995
either locally or externally.

b.) lucid images: copy ramdisk out of image, and use it

I've tried to connect to 2 Windows PC using the IP address instead of
the network name, but still can't connect (while the 2 windows PC

With the above patch applied stopping individual quagga daemons removes
the routes they've created (stopping bgpd removes only routes learnt via
BGP, etc). The apparent exception is zebra - that removes all routes.
This seems like far more reasonable behaviour.

Today it happened three times in under an hour. The first two between
displays one and two, the third - for the first time ever for me -
between two and three. The only difference on the third occurrence was
