I am finding the same problem on Ubuntu release 10.04,
CUPS 1.4.3 and Evolution 2.28.3

The Problem seems to be with the IRC integration, it's enough to have
one highlighted in a persistent IRC Chat and open it via indicator
applet, one can't close the window with the IRC chat, one has to remove

Other than the errors being spammed and dmesg being unusable, I do not
notice any immediate problems with the nVidia driver.

Ouch. This can be... interesting. It seems from bug 602267 that this is
solved upstream in the gallium driver, so we can not count on upstream
help to nail this down in the classic driver. Can you also try the mesa
packages from the Radeon gallium PPA, and check whether is fixed with
gallium, or
Sorry, the Radeon gallium PPA has only Lucid packages at the moment, I
will consider making Maverick packages later. For now maybe you can try
the xorg-edgers PPA which has gallium by default as well? Or try
installing those Lucid packages in Maverick, it might work.

Same problem here; nothing more than the blinking cursor. Changing to
another terminal via ctrl+alt+F1 first brings up the usual login. Then
everything freezes, even before being able to enter the first letter.
Not sure whether evince is responsible for this. Rather not, since same

Also tried with Ubuntu alternate amd64 on real hardware. No dice.
