Got the exact same problem in 10.04.1. With heave diskload, for instance
rsync, the system goes down and needs a hard reboot.
When downgrading to a 9.10 kernel (2.6.28-19-server), everything works
as expected again.

I can confirm that the custom kernel with radeon driver compiled in does
work, but oddly enough performance seems to be less than with the driver
compiled as a module and modesetting enabled (which breaks suspend).
Regardless, the performance is still better than if I compile radeon as
a module

Same problem here: transfer starts well (about 15-20 Mb) but immediately (in
less than 20 seconds falls to 7-5 Mb) slows down upt to 1,5 Mb or less. That
problem doesn't appear in Windows XP SP3.
