I had the same problem with a P7P55D-E-Premium mother board running 64 bit
versions of both Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10. No issue with Ubuntu 9.10. Switching
to a USB mouse would make the mouse work but of course not the keyboard.
I understand the asus_atk0110 driver gives information for the fans.

I started by fixing Windows. Seems it was using a buggy driver. Now it has
proper speeds (around 3MBytes/s).
So there is now a base for comparison.
I will test reverting the 1st and then 2nd commit again, taking into
account that speed decrease isn't always instant - I just experienced
it.

I have updated kernel-package to Maverick version but this doesn't solve the
problem.
I solved it with a manual update of initrd.
I have installed Lucid version because is a LTS but, finally, I think that was
a bad idea. The bugs are solved in newer versions but not in Lucid. :-(
